A lot of people ask me about making money online. I wanted to layout a simple guide to making money online that allowed newbies to jump in and not feel afraid and guide them down a simple path.

Keep it simple. Use adsense and one to two affiliate programs. I personally have a hosting affiliate program that really rocks and so far has been successful. Mostly I enjoy the ‘suprise’ income from hosting affiliate programs. Adsense is king as well.

Affiliate programs aren’t for everyone however one way to get started with performance marketing as far as making money using a program that will fit your blog is through Jim Kukral’s Blogkits.

The so-called blog, Digg the Blog, lets me know that the social bookmarking service Digg turned two on December 7th. That’s quite an age in the Web 2.0 world, especially since the Digg guys actually counts from the day when “beta” left the logo. Gmail is still in beta, so it’s zero years old.

Hard to believe, but two years ago today, Kevin decided my code was bug- free enough to take down the beta sign and unleash Digg upon the world. It’s been a crazy and exciting time since then, and we owe it all to you – the loyal and passionate members of the Digg community.

However, when speaking of Digg in the very much digging blogosphere, you’re speaking of gaming. My good buddy Tony has a nice post on it up on Deep Jive Interests, talking about how diggers never will be paid by Digg, but still making money gaming it on behalf of other companies.

And another thing, Digg is two years old, but will it make it to three? I’m certain it will, but Kevin Rose & Co. won’t be the owners anymore. Who will buy it? My guess is Google.

Every so often I will chime in on how I plan to operate 901am. I view 901am as a ‘third place‘ industry site. With this third place mentality, it allows use to do some pretty awesome things. The key thing is this:

The bottom line is still the bottom. Market share will never be our passion here. We will never worry if we are catching the other guys. We will only worry if we are doing a kick-ass job of providing the lastest blogging and new media news all the while attempting to make a decent profit while doing it.

Jackson West, of Web Worker Daily brings out some cool numbers on a recent report (pdf) from New Media Age, a UK publication. He points out that the future generation of web workers could largely be dependent on mobile technology, social networking, and text messaging.

Most importantly, though, I like Jackson West’s analysis:

While … this is good news for the mobile music industry, what we see is a generation that takes their browsing home with them and are accustomed to always-on connectivity, instant access to content and mobile social networking. Getting them to sit quietly in cubicles may prove difficult.
