Draw Something has been a runaway success since it became available for iOS and Android smartphone and tablet users. It has generated the kind of interest and rabid following that Words with Friends generated before.
Zynga, the creators of Words with Friends and other hit games (and arguably the top social gaming developer in the world), knows a hit when it sees it, so instead of developing a Draw Something clone to compete with the hit app, they made the best move they can make – buy the developer of Draw Something.
Zynga just bought OMGPOP, the makers of Draw Something, for a cool $200 million. So what will Zynga get for its newest acquisition? First, the whole 40-member team of OMGPOP, which is based in New York City, is now working for Zynga. OMGPOP CEO Dan Porter will now become general manager and vice president of Zynga New York . Of course, the real prize is that Zynga now gets Draw Something.\
Draw Something is a game that mimics the mechanics of Pictionary. Two players play the game and in each round, a player is given a word that he should draw so that his opponent will be able to guess it. The player who is guessing will be given a set number of letters from which the word can be spelled. Draw Something has been downloaded over 35 million times in just one month and has been bringing OMGPOP $250,000 in revenues every day.
