We all know that gadgets and various internet technologies can really make a difference in our lives. But sometimes these benefits come at the most unusual places.
I bet you guys have read the news about Alec Baldwin being kicked off a plane because he insisted on playing Zynga’s highly addictive game Words With Friends. Before you think that Words With Friends is gaming crack, consider how this very same game saved a person’s life.
The story starts with Beth Legler, a Missouri woman who met Georgie and Simon Fletcher, a couple who lives in Australia, when she used the Words With Friends feature of looking for random opponents online. She used her mobile phone to play Words With Friends. Legler and the Fletchers would often play against each other and would even use the Words With Friends chat option to post messages and initiate an online conversation.
During one of their Words With Friends sessions, Georgie Fletcher happened to mention that her husband, Simon, was not feeling well. She promptly described the symptoms to Beth. As it turns out, Beth’s husband is a doctor. She relayed the symptoms that Georgie shared to her husband. Upon hearing the symptoms, Beth’s husband, Larry, told her to tell the Fletchers that they need to go to the doctor immediately.
Upon checking Simon up, it was discovered that there was a blockage that was located near his heart. Almost 99 percent of blood is not passing through the artery. If not for the prompt visit to the doctor, he could’ve suffered a catastrophic heart attack.
The couples have not yet met in person but they said they’ll definitely be friends forever.
