An almost universal computing environment. This is what the future will look like if reported information about Windows 8 is true.
According to Nvidia CEO Jen Hsun Huang, he thinks that Microsoft’s next generation computer and tablet operating system, Windows 8, will be able to recognize and run apps that have been developed and coded for the Windows Mobile Phone 7 operating system – which is the new mobile operating system developed by the software giant.
The exact nature of Windows 8 still remains a mystery because Microsoft is keeping mum about the exact capabilities of the still being developed operating system. But moving towards an integrated operating system environment is indeed quite an attractive proposition. Analysts think that what Huang is saying will actually bring Windows Phone 7 OS’ popularity skyrocketing, and thus a move that Microsoft should really take seriously, if not already. Windows Phone 7 is no slouch as a mobile operating system. Just recently, the Windows Phone Marketplace achieved a milestone when apps in the store surpassed 30,000 apps.
If, indeed, Microsoft is developing a more universal environment for Windows 8, it will also mean that Microsoft’s Silverlight platform is not going to be abandoned as well. This is because Silverlight and XNA are used in developing apps for the OS. In the recent past, Microsoft has hinted that new touch enabled apps for Windows Phone 7 will be developed using HTML5.
Microsoft should take the logical step and develop the integration between Windows 8 and Windows Mobile Phone 7.
