There’s a ton of these kinds of projects online, but this one might actually make sense. Shutdown Day wants you to go without your computer for a full 24 hours on March 24.
It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?
Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!
Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?
Will you do it? Let them know!

Would be nice to know what they plan to do with your email address and personal information after it’s over. They don’t disclose this on their site …
Creative way to harvest email addresses… (not saying they will, but they should be stating that clearly in a privacy policy)..

Hey Thord,
Thanks so much for letting us know about this. It seems like every weekend I have the intention of completely turning off the computer, but somehow I always end up back online.
This Shutdown Day will give me a good reason to mindfully stay off of the computer. It certainly helps that it’s on a Saturday.
I’m also really picky about who I give my email to, so I will do the Shutdown Day unofficially. So, technically I won’t be counted in the experiment, but it’ll still be of value to me just to get the entire day away from the computer.
It’s spring and gorgeous weather–we should all turn off our computers and get outside in the sunshine more often!
Cheers,
Sharon

Is it just me, or does this seem somewhat silly. I go several days a year without my computer – it’s when I’m on vacation.
Fortunately, the girlfriend takes a rather dim view of bringing the laptop along on vacations. After getting used to the idea, I have to say – she’s right. I have a feeling I’m not the only person in the world to have figured this out. So, the whole concept “Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?” seems a bit silly to me.
Plenty of people do it, all the time. I don’t know why we need a website and a special date. Seems more like just some random publicity thing.

I will not do it.

Hey Doug, this computer shutdown day is actually not silly at all.
For folks who have their businesses online, it’s a major big deal to go 24 hours away from the computer.
