With iPhone lovers already upset with Ma Bell over pricing, network issues or (most likely) both, it comes to no surprise that the Verizon iPhone rumors are once again making the rounds.
But apparently the media is once again claiming that we will see a Verizon iPhone in our life time, which means that loyal fans of the carrier may finally be able to join the iCult.
Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone in the U.S., two people familiar with the plans said.
The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. (via Bloomberg)
With Apple already outselling Android thanks in part to the glorious “iHate Left Handed People” phone (aka iPhone 4), an iPhone on Verizon could easily spell the end of the Android phenomenon, not to mention a few other competitors (i.e. Blackberry) as well.
Although this iLoving geek would admit that the Android OS is much more powerful than Steve Jobs favorite calling device, truth be told Google’s Android OS lacks beauty, which may convince the masses to ditch it for Cupertino’s walled garden.
It may also spell the end of Microsoft’s Windows 7 Mobile, as the corporate world may choose to buy their employees the (much coveted) iPhone in order to “guaranteed loyalty” rather than yet another ugly company smartphone.
Although this author is putting this rumor in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” category, news that Apple is potentially partnering with Verizon is probably sending shivers down Eric Schmidt’s spine.
