I first want to define why New media is growing. To me New media has been growing because of the ease of new tools of publishing such as WordPress, Pmachine, MovableType and others. With this growth comes more and more advertising dollars funneling online. Much of this has been swallowed up by big corporations. But many one man shops have been able to make a decent living by creating something companies would hire entire teams to do.
Education is the key.
One of the huge solutions to defeating poverty is by increasing educational opportunities here and abroad by providing access to industry leaders experience to provide resources to future generations of creators.
When I started 901am I saw a huge need for an ‘industry style publication’ for those in the content creation business and those who are active semiprofessional new media publishers.
Now I see the desire to take 901am further than just being an industry publication but also being an industry educational hub. Not just online but also offline.
I envision an environment where students learn in much the same way that one learns to ride a bike – by trying, failing and trying again until everything suddenly falls in place.
Over the next 3-6 months I will crafting an organic educational program that will be able to be taught in small groups, or self taught. During the initial planning I plan on leaning a bit more on some of our bloggers here to maintain the news coverage while I develop the curriculum materials.
