Blog search company Technorati has faced mounting criticisms over the years, mostly coming from disillusioned fanatics of the site. Luckily, the IDG News Service was able to interview Technorati CEO Richard Jalichandra to help us understand the future of the company.
It’s quite long so here’s the short version. Technorati is and will remain a blog search engine with many features to come. It also does not consider itself as direct competitor of social news sites like Digg and Slashdot. Its traffic has doubled in size at the expense of Google’s Blog Search. From 948,000 visitors in 2006, it reached 2.8 million last year.
Because the company is full of ambitions, it will definitely ask for more funding for expansion and combine it with the revenues it has generated. However, Jalichandra did not provide a direct answer if there are plans of selling the company to bigger players.
International expansion is also included in the target list of Technorati. It currently has a joint venture with Technorati Japan and its database regularly contains about 30 different languages.
Unfortunately, Technorati is yet to find the solution to stop spam-blog problem.
