Microsoft Deletes Blog For Leaking Windows 8?

With Microsoft giddy about the launch of Windows 7 Mobile in the fall, it looks like one of their employee’s was a little too excited and seems to have (accidentally?) posted early demos of Windows 8 upon a blog powered by Live Spaces.

Fortunately another blogger was able to retrieve a few screen shots for MS lovers everywhere before the Redmond giant shut down the blog.

One of the features is that the PC will automatically resume from sleep and log-in when it sees you. Microsoft calls this “My PC Knows Me” The idea is quite simple, most computers now come with a webcam built-in or have one connected to them. Microsoft will be using this camera for facial detection and along with a proximity sensor the algorithm behind it will do the rest. (via I’m Just Being Manan) [Read more…]

Burger King Sells Windows 7 Whopper

Microsoft’s marketing never fails to confuse the Hell out of me. Windows 7 is supposed to be leaner than the bloated Vista. In a hilarious contrast to the promise of a leaner OS, Burger King in Japan is offering a seven-patty Windows 7 Whopper.

This 1.7-pound greasemonster slams 2,120 calories down your throat. Maybe Microsoft wants to give you a heart attack before Windows 7’s “newness” wears off. [Read more…]

One Laptop Per Child Scales the Gates

Microsoft, along with the One Laptop Per Child project, have announced that the XO laptop will be available in both Linux and Windows.

The Windows-powered XO will be released in approximately six countries starting next month. Expect a wider release later in the year.

The agreement, which has been rumored for quite some time, guarantees a broader acceptance for the XO which has gotten off to a shaky (at best) start. Several countries, such as Uruguay, made Windows a mandatory requirement in order to embrace the program.

The ultimate goal is to create a laptop that with boot in either Windows or Linux.

See, in order to get laptops into the hands of children in developing countries, everyone can get along!

Sony To Phase Out Feature Phones, Will Exclusively Make Smartphones

A few weeks back, we reported that Sony is planning to go it alone as a mobile phone manufacturer and have plans of buying the shares of Ericsson and effectively end the Sony-Ericsson partnership.

Now that Sony has made good on its plans and is now the sole owner of the Sony Ericsson phone company, the electronics manufacturer is now preparing new plans as it moves forward. The latest news from the Sony camp is that it will begin phasing out its feature phones and concentrate solely on smartphones in the future. [Read more…]
