Breakups suck – there’s no other way around it. The mental, emotional, and financial anguish are real, according to Los Angeles Divorce Lawyers Marina Korol and Rozanna M. Velen.
“The prospect of divorce invariably creates a wide range of emotions. Losing what once seemed to be a source of unconditional support is never easy,” says Korol. “It is compounded by the frustration of the seemingly hostile legal proceedings that you are left with in its place.”
But breakups are much more difficult to deal with nowadays compared to years back. With the widespread use of social media, the ghost of your ex will live on the images and posts that s/he has been tagged in. Not to mention, you can still him or her through the photos he’s tagged in by your friends, who also happens to be your ex’s friends.
And we’re not even going to detail the drunk calls and text you will probably make throughout their burgeoning process.
If you’re one of the heartbroken who want to move on but simply can’t, below are breakup apps for your mobile devices that will help you stand up once again, if not access your social media without any trace of your ex.
KillSwitch
If you can’t access Facebook because all you will see are memories of your relationship that was, download and use this app. KillSwitch will let you identify your ex and remove status updates, images, videos, and wall posts that your ex is tagged in. The content won’t be deleted permanently – the app will save the files in a hidden folder on Facebook so you can restore them whenever you and your ex mend the fence or want to revisit your past relationship for laughs.
Part of the proceeds that KillSwitch receives will be donated to the American Heart Association.
Drunk Mode
This app is specifically made for party animals who want to spend their evenings going to bars and getting wasted. Drunk Mode includes keeping track of your equally drunk friends and breadcrumbs that informs where you went last night and what time.
This handy app will also prevent you from making those late night, drunken calls or messages not only your ex but also other people through the Stop Drunk Dialing feature.
Breakup RX
This app is developed by licensed therapist Jane Reardon, whose experience in treating young people who have had problems with coping up with their respective breakups.
“I was treating people in breakups more psychologically, and what I discovered was that they were too depressed to deal with that,” Reardon told The Daily Beast. “That’s why the focus of the app is really on empowerment and strengthening self, and liking yourself. Because when you’re in a breakup, the person who you like the most doesn’t like you anymore. So you don’t like you.”
The app is a 30 step program, with each step taken one a day. Each step is professionally crafted so that it covers all the aspects that prevent people from moving on after a break.
Breakup RX is still in development up until now. But if you see yourself nursing a broken heart anytime soon, check out the app if it’s available for download.
Final thoughts: These breakup apps are not be-all-end-all to help you move on. Nonetheless, these should be use to facilitate your progress and help you become your old, happy self again. Daphne Rose Kingma said it best: “Holding on is believing that there’s only a past; letting go is knowing that there’s a future.”
