Evernote calls on community to translate site

July 31, 2009 By Andy Merrett

Following in the footsteps of Facebook, the popular online service Evernote is calling on its community to help translate the site into languages other than English and Russian.

The project aims to have Evernote versions available in French, German, Italian and Spanish by the end of the year, relying on users to translate as much or as little content as they want.

The online tool lets users add new translations or edit existing ones. There are also positions available for volunteer co-ordinators who will have greater responsibility for reviewing and approving translations.

If this experiment is successful, more languages will be offered up in the future.

Create Your Own Community on Mixx

June 25, 2008 By Andrew G. R.

I don’t know about your blog, but I pull a nice chunk from Mixx – something I can’t say about Digg. I now the site is stirring things up again with their self-dubbed “Ning for social media.”

Users are now able to build their own Mixx community site using a personalized subdomain. These microsites feature the content and design that the creator fashions.

Just like any other social community, members may join the group and submit stories of interest directly to the group. Of course, they may still submit stories to all Mixx users too.

Network creators select tags that will automatically pull sories from the main Mixx stream, meaning your part of th eMixx universe won’t starve for content.

Rounded out with a message board and stats feature, there are even awards for top submitters.

If you want to Make Work Better, you can check out my Jobacle Mixx community.

Pandora, Flixster added to IndieClick’s network

June 16, 2008 By Dennis Bouchand

Personalized radio service Pandora and online community for movie fans Flixster are both joining Indieclick, a publisher network that targets the youth market.

These new additions grow IndieClick’s targeted network of more than 200 film/entertainment, music, culture and community destinations to more than 50 million unique visitors who generate more than 2.5 billion impressions per month.

The bottomline here is more reach for advertisers since IndieClick’s network is targeted on the most receptive audience in the areas of music, film, and entertainment– the youth.
