Samsung Galaxy Skin for 2012 release

Samsung’s design aesthetics when it comes to its phone can be a hit or miss affair but although the company may have released some duds in terms of phone functionality or design, it has also released a lot of winners. Samsung has a lot of sought-after phones and I’ve got a very strong feeling that the Samsung Galaxy Skin is going to be one of them.

The Samsung Galaxy Skin was originally presented to the public as a design concept. And the reason was obvious – the Galaxy Skin uses a component that hasn’t been seen on a phone ever before – a flexible AMOLED display. Using this material makes the display totally bendable. Motorola announces Droid Razr, The Thinnest Android Phone

It’s long been reported that Motorola keeps getting different “Razr” related domain names even though it hasn’t released any new phones in ages. The domain name acquisition obviously means the company is planning on releasing new phones in the future and that time is now as Motorola has announced a new Razr phone.

The Motorola Droid Razr is an Android powered smartphone that is supposedly smartphone in the world, measuring just 7.1mm in thickness. [Read more…]

Traffic from Hand-held Devices Increasing

Here’s news that won’t really surprise you. A study conducted by comScore, majority of the non-computer traffic in the United States has increased by almost seven percent over the month of August this year. The increase in traffic has been largely attributes the use of smartphones, tablets and other portable devices. Smartphone usage has been identified as making up 64 percent of the non-computer traffic in the US, tablets occupy 28 percent.

In another predictable finding of the report, Apple’s various iOS devices dominated the smartphone and tablet categories. In terms of the tablet segment, the iPad made up 97 percent, while iOS smartphones (the various generations of the iPhone) owned 58.5 percent of the smartphone traffic. [Read more…]

Android Ice Cream Sandwich vs BlackBerry OS 7

In the near future both Google and RIM will each offer new versions of their portable device operating systems. Google will introduce Android Ice Cream, an OS that integrates all the best features from previous builds into one powerful software. RIM, meanwhile, will update its BlackBerry OS to version 7, an update that many believe will be able to stand toe to toe with the popular Android. In order to separate truth from conjecture, we decided to compare the two operating systems to see which comes out ahead.

Web Experience
No longer content with keeping pace with its competitors, RIM has fully upgraded its browser with support for HTML5 and Flash. Furthermore, the tailored made Just in Time javascript engine renders HTML much faster than its predecessors. In fact, benchmarks have shown that the BlackBerry OS 7 outperforms the iOS, Windows Phone 7, and Android in loading web pages.

Android Ice Cream also provides a faster experience than its predecessor, Gingerbread. Flash and HTML5 content load quickly, with easily manageable tabs. The fact that it still runs slower than the BlackBerry OS 7 is a testament to RIM’s development team. [Read more…]
