Apple Top Smartphone Manufacturer in the US, Android Top Platform

A newly released report by research firm Nielsen has significantly shown that Apple is still the top dog when it comes to the smartphone market. The report revealed that Apple is still the top smartphone manufacturer with the largest share in the market. But this position is slowly being threatened by other manufacturers who are making Android smartphones.

The Nielsen report – which compiles data taken from August through October of 2011 — showed that Apple has a strong 29 percent share of the smartphone market. The second top smartphone manufacturer is actually HTC, which has a 21 percent share. Coming in at third (surprisingly, at least to me) is RIM – the manufacturer of BlackBerry phones – which enjoys a 17 percent share of the market. Fourth place is occupied by Samsung and Motorola, which both have an 11 percent share of the smartphone market. [Read more…]

Google Allegedly Preparing New 7 Inch Android Tablet

Rumors are buzzing again about Google getting into the tablet market.

According to a report posted by DigiTimes, Google is supposedly in the midst of creating a new 7 inch  tablet that will be operated by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The tablet will allegedly be more affordable than the $200 Amazon Kindle Fire, which is the hottest tablet in the market today, after the Apple iPad. [Read more…]

Microsoft Wins Patent Infringement Suit Vs Motorola

Patent infringement lawsuits are flying all over the place. Aside from Samsung and Apple, who are locked in a constant legal entanglement regarding patent infringement, Microsoft and Motorola are also involved in such a lawsuit.

Just recently, Microsoft won in a patent infringement lawsuit against Motorola. An administrative law judge for the US International Trade Commission made a decision that Motorola’s Motorola Android phones infringed on one of Microsoft’s seven patents. [Read more…]

Google Planning To Launch Its Own Tablet?

Apple is the acknowledged market leader when it comes to tablet sales. Its iPad has reinvigorated the tablet market and has spurred its growth. Amazon may just have entered the tablet market this year – specifically last November – but it is already making a lot of headway with its Kindle Fire tablet. With the tablet market being dominated by these two companies, along with Samsung, it’s inevitable that another company will want to join in and try to get a slice of the tablet market pie. Android Market reaches historic 10 billion download level

The Android Market recently reached a historic milestone as it recorded about 10 billion apps downloaded since it was opened. Google announced that to commemorate this record number of downloads it has partnered with a number of Android app developers to offer a number of apps at very reasonable prices, an understatement given that these apps will be made available for only 10 cents.
