Japan is in the midst of getting back on its feet after a devastating earthquake and tsunami that destroyed large parts of the country. The catastrophe also created further problems like the nuclear power plant that got damaged and threatened to meltdown.
Even though the possible meltdown was contained, the threat of radiation seeping out and affecting large areas in Japan has become a very real concern, and it was more than enough for companies to try and develop a product that addresses these concerns. And this is best illustrated by the smartphone that can detect radiation and measure the amount of radiation in an area. This high-tech smartphone will be shown at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technology or CEATEC, which will be held in Japan this coming October.
The demand for equipment that can measure radiation levels dramatically increased after the nuclear plant meltdown at Fukushima, Japan. This extremely high demand for the technology prompted Japan’s largest mobile phone carrier, NTT Docomo, to develop a special smartphone that can do what people wanted and be able to do it inside a very diminutive product.
The product can be equipped with different cases that have different kinds of sensors. With the different cases, the smartphone will become various “devices” as well. For example, with just a change in case, the smartphone will be able to detect the alcohol inside your body or measure the user’s body fat.
This is the kind of technology that is a great argument for the power of smartphones.
