I’ve been a long-time user of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0. I love its convenient size, which I think is perfect for emails, browsing the internet and reading ebooks. Even though I love this Android tablet, I still want to experience a different experience with it through the new Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. I’ve always wondered when Samsung will release an official update that will allow me to use Ice Cream Sandwich.
Samsung has finally announced that Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy Tab. But not in a way that I was expecting.
Samsung announced that it will be releasing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. This new model will now come with equipped with Ice Cream Sandwich. With the suffix “2”, you’d think that this new model is the next generation Galaxy Tab. But, unfortunately, it’s not. The Galaxy Tab 2 will actually have the same specs as the first Galaxy Tab – a 1Ghz dual core processor, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 hosting, WiFi and/or 3G (depending on the model), 1GB of RAM and a 600 x 1024 resolution WXGA display. In fact, the only difference is that the Galaxy Tab 2 will use Ice Cream Sandwich (the first Galaxy Tab used Froyo) and it will have a downgraded front and rear camera. Yes, a downgrade. The new model will have a VGA (1.3 megapixel in the first one) front camera and a 3 megapixel fixed focus rear camera (3 megapixels with auto focus and flash).
So far there’s no pricing being given for the Galaxy Tab 2. But it does leave people wondering how Samsung will market such a product. On the other hand, it has given me hope that someone might have the ingenuity to allow Galaxy Tab owners to install Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices.
