Samsung hit a huge snag in Europe when Apple successfully petitioned the court to block the sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in Germany. Samsung is not about to take it lying down so it has devised a way to still sell its product in Germany.
Samsung plans to take advantage of the Christmas shopping frenzy by modifying the design of its new Galaxy 10.1 tablet. The redesign decision was made to avoid being accuse of patent infringement, the case being filed by Apple against Samsung. The redesigned tablet is now called 10.1N but it only sports minor differences with the original/first 10.1 tablet model. The new model has a bezel that slightly wraps over to the front of the tablet. The speakers have also been placed on to the front of the tablet as well.
Samsung is hoping that these minor modifications will be enough to get away with selling the products in Germany and not be accused by Apple of infringing on its patents and intellectual property. The design, it has been reported, looks like a collaboration between Samsung’s legal team in Germany and the company’s design team.
The Samsung 10.1N is already popping up in German retailers and also on online shopping sites. The 10.1N will be selling for 549 euros.
The big question is whether the modifications Samsung made to the Galaxy 10.1 tablet will be enough to get away from legal trouble and be able to sell during the busiest consumer shopping time of the year. It’s now Apple’s turn to make a move. Will it let this one slide or will it bring Samsung to court once again. My money’s on the latter option.
