A new player has entered the search engine arena, and it goes by the name of Recipe Finder. As the name implies, the new search engine focuses on recipes and opens up a veritable treasure trove for those who love to fiddle in the kitchen. Recipe Finder holds the distinction of being the largest recipe search engine in existence. It boasts a whopping 1.7 million recipes and 700,000 images – or thereabouts.
It does not plan on stopping at those figures, though. The search engine continues to index some of the most trusted recipe web sites one can find. As such, the database is an ever expanding collection of recipes. For now, the site indexes around 250 recipe web sites, but it is to be expected that the number grows with time as well.
One of the most striking things about Recipe Finder is the design. I don’t know about you, but as a user, I want a food-related site to be very easy on the eyes. I don’t want it to push food down my throat, but I do want to be enticed. And that is exactly the feeling I get even from a mere look at the home page, which you can see above.
Another interesting – and very useful – thing about the recipe search engine is its Advanced Search option. From what I have tried, searching for recipes is easy enough. Just type whatever you are looking for in the search bar, and you will have more results than you can cook in a day. However, the Advance Search option makes it more interesting by allowing you to add parameters to narrow down your search. You can specify details such as cook time, calorie count, number of servings, and whether to include or exclude ingredients. If you absolutely abhor a certain ingredient (or you’re allergic to something), the last detail can be very useful – even lifesaving in certain cases.
Recipe Finder also offers two options for viewing search results. You can either view results as text or images. For the former, you will still see the image associated with the recipe, but only as a small detail. The plus is that you get the recipe name, ingredients, and other details.
The image view, on the other hand, gives you fewer details initially. The plus is that you get a lovely look at the images of food. You certainly will have a hard time deciding what to make with images like the ones below!
See what I mean now?
Recipe Finder may be a newcomer to the scene, but it shows a lot of potential to make waves. We won’t even go into the underlying technology. Suffice it to say that if you are planning on making something in the kitchen this weekend, make it easy on yourself and enlist the help of this new recipe search engine. You can thank us for the find later!
