New low budget airline Virgin America said today it had chosen Orbitz to be its exclusive online travel agency in the United States. Virgin America fares will be offered via the Orbitz.com and CheapTickets.com Web sites.
Orbitz said it began sales of Virgin America tickets on its Web sites today. The airline describes itself as being a low-cost carrier which offers amenities like “mood lighting in the cabin, leather seats with one of the most advanced in-flight entertainment systems offering on-demand movies, satellite TV, music, games and even an online chat room where guests can email each other aboard the aircraft. First class travelers will enjoy massage chairs with 55 inches of seat pitch.”
“Virgin America is an exciting brand our customers will know and want to experience as they search for low cost carrier options on Orbitz and CheapTickets,” said Steve Barnhart, CEO and president of Orbitz Worldwide, a division of Travelport Ltd. “We’re very pleased to welcome this brand to the skies above the United States as we serve Virgin America as their exclusive online travel agency for their launch this summer.”
