Olive Software is extending its mobile offerings on Blackberry, iPhone and other handheld devices with new text messaging capabilities provided by its partner, Informz. Publishers can now reach their customers on the go with breaking news headlines or other notifications. The text messages link seamlessly to the full digital edition, which users can access on their mobile devices.
Olive’s new text messaging capabilities allow users to receive notifications from publishers with a link to their electronic edition. They can view the full edition or a text-only version, depending on user preference or technical constraints such as bandwidth and screen resolution. Publishers rely on Olive’s microcontent platform and article-level segmentation to repurpose their articles for display on mobile devices.
For more immediate notification regarding availability of electronic editions, users can register to have the publisher send a text message in addition or instead of the current process of sending an email using an integrated package such as Informz.
Publishers already benefiting from Olive digital publishing solutions include Time Inc., ESPN, Reed Business Information, Hearst Business Media, Newport Communications, and many others. They will now be able to deliver their content to the global community of over 9 million Blackberry users and 1 million iPhone users.
