A Social Network That Won’t Work?
Please don’t call me a chauvinist, but would you female athletes out there really participate in a social network called Takkle, put together by Tampax? There are some social networks that we just don’t need. Can you imagine one by some company that offers a jock itch product? Do you want to be reminded, each time you visit?
Welcome To Gore TV
Al Gore, that is. So the Man Who Would Be President now has his own channel on Current TV. That’s in UK and Ireland, though. And it’s all democratic, since users vote towards what they’ll see. Hmm, I don’t know. I watch a TV channel because I know what’s going to be on, not because I want to see what might be on. I mean, isn’t this why IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) is going to be so hot? Because you can choose what you want when you want it? Some things don’t need to be democratic.
Hush Your Mouth
A regular jaunt through the blogosphere will reveal any number of posts which libel famous people without regard for the consequences. While 99.999999% of bloggers have gotten away with it, that’s starting to change. An especially stupid move is to libel your former lawyer. Just a thought, but as blogging becomes as a mainstream career and earnings rise, expect more libel lawsuits to be levied. So be careful what you say, without substantiation – just as a “real” journalist would.
YouTube: The World’s Digital Soapbox?
Lawsuits and bannings aside, does any website qualify for the title of “world’s soapbox” more than YouTube? It’s more than a soapbox, it’s a mirror of society.
Unclear on the Effects of a Boycott?
After citizens declared they’d boycott the advertisers of newspapers that published right wing motormouth Ann Coulter’s column, a number of advertisers pulled their ads. A few newspapers also dropped the column. On the other hand, a few newspapers explained why they were keeping her column. My fave: “I don’t like Ann Coulter but… I resent being lectured to by people who don’t even subscribe to my newspaper.”
A Tax Upon You
That freebie (such as the free laptops Microsoft sent out) that a company sent you to review on a blog just might be taxable earnings. Bloggers earning a significant income or getting material goods are probably already aware of tax issues, but in case you’re not, read OJR’s tax answers for online publishers.

Ohad Jehassi says
Hi, Ohad Jehassi here from TAKKLE. TAKKLE is a privately-held company that launched as a beta in December. Tampax is one of a number of our advertising sponsors. In Tampax’s case, they’re sponsoring our Cheerleading video battle. You should check out our other battles—including our Bench Press competition sponsored by Met-Rx. As you might imagine, we work with a lot well-known companies–including Sports Illustrated and New Balance. Enjoy!
