MyDamnChannel.com, a new video site that features shortform programming from various creators, receives an undisclosed amount of funding as it launches.
Founded by former MTV exec Rob Barnett, MyDamnChannel launches with The Simpsons’s Harry Shearer and comedianne David Wain gracing the inaugural slate with a series of short programs. Shearer stars in a seven-week set of pop-culture political spoofs, while Wain directs and starts in 10 episodes of dating exploits entitled “Wainy Days”.
Barnett, who, aside from being with MTV was also with CBS radio, hopes that getting high-profile personalities at launch will make it stand out from other similar entertainment sites. “There’s a slew of sites with hundreds of thousands of videos that are impossible to find,” he said. “We’re taking a very different approach than all the YouTube imitators.”
MyDamnChannel will also have a channel in YouTube. Revenue is expected to be generated from advertising.
