MLB.com announced that it has brought together eight of the top fantasy baseball players to compete in the first-ever World Series of Fantasy Baseball. The field of participants, who were all season champions from MLB.com and licensed fantasy partners CBSSports.com, ESPN.com and SportingNews.com, will compete in a head-to-head postseason tournament to crown the year’s ultimate fantasy baseball champion.
For the Division Series round of the competition, each participant will choose a team of nine players during a live draft that will air exclusively on a special 90-minute postseason edition of the Fantasy 411 on Wednesday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) on MLB.com’s BaseballChannel.TV. The nine players, who must be eligible members of teams that qualified for the MLB postseason, will consist of a catcher, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, three outfielders and an individual team’s pitching staff. Subsequent drafts will be held prior to the beginning of the League Championship Series (October 11) and World Series (October 23).
The grand prize winner will be eligible to receive a prize package that includes an all-expenses paid trip for two to New York for the 2008 All-Star FanFest at the Jacobs Javits Center, where he will be presented with the championship trophy during a special on-stage ceremony, and 2008 Home Run Derby and All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.
