A new social networking site announced today is being playfully presented as a question on whether racial profiling can be fun. MixYourWorlds.com, formerly known as MixedRace.com, is an expansion of the latter site.
MixYourWorlds.com looks to encourage its members to “create diverse friend groups while helping them realize and change their racial biases.” The site has all the usual Web 2.0 bells and whistles – friends list, personal blogs and instant messaging. Added on top of this is tracking the make-up of users’ friends on the site and pointing out racial attraction preferences and biases.
“This is brand new to the world of social networking,” MixYourWorlds.com creator Art Harrison, said. “We’re encouraging our members to create diverse friendships and pay attention to their racial biases. By tracking their interactions on the site and informing them of some of their biases and subconscious values we’re trying to give them a gentle nudge towards diversity.”
