It’s that time of year when Mediaweek announces what it believes are the hot stars of the digital world.
As you might expect, the Digital Hot List 2009 has some familiar names such as Facebook, Twitter, Google and the iPhone, together with a few that you might not have expected.
Here’s the list:
- Facebook (2)
- Hulu (4)
- Twitter (new)
- Google (1)
- iPhone (3)
- Huffington Post (8)
- Bing (new)
- WSJ.com (new)
- Federated Media (new)
- AddictingGames (new)
Firstly, note how many new entries there are on the list, while some of the established names slip a couple of places.
Facebook pops up to first place because of its huge online population, popularity, and the fact that it’s making money.
It’s perhaps surprising that it has taken so long for Twitter to make the list, but it storms in at number 3 despite the fact that it makes no money of its own. The fact that Google and Microsoft seem to love it must help.
I guess Google can only slip from last year’s pole position, though that doesn’t mean it’s doing badly. What might be surprising is that Bing has made it to position number 7.
Despite the fact that the Huffington Post has an appalling knowledge of Australia, it climbs two places to #6.
The popularity of online games (and free ones at that), has helped AddictingGames.com make the final place in the top ten.
What do you think of this list? Are these the ten greatest cyber stars?
