Technorati has joined the “online Superbowl Commercial” craze with this ad.
WTF? rather than give my own thoughts, I’ll share some from Jeremy Schoemaker, who totally hits the mark (you can read more on his blog):
You have this wicked cool product, were collecting marketshare for blog search like mad and you just sit on it for like a year while Google/Yahoo/MSN Blogs comes along and totally kills your marketshare and you spend ZERO on advertising then you go and spend millions on a superbowl commercial about your new WTF product well I got some WTFs for you.
What the fu*k are you thinking with the Big Lebowski. Ya I dig it… But I am 32 years old. I doubt the majority of the kids you are trying to attract….
Spot on Jeremy.

Wtf is wrong with you? You’re a total douchebag.
Let me clear this up: THIS WASN’T A SUPERBOWL AD!
It was an ANTI superbowl ad!
A bunch of web2.0 players all did these silly little ads.
Read techcrunch. Get a clue. For a freaking expert, you suck.
I mean seriously, the whole point of 901 was cool and accurate reporting on what’s going on in new media.
Geeze, unsubscribed. 901 was one of my filters. Adding junk to 901 defeats the purpose.

I never said it was a Superbowl ad, I said it was a “online superbowl ad”, and Technorati wasn’t the only company with this sort of marketing…but seriously, WTF to you + Technorati…seasick media? mate, get off the boat, it’s making you delirious :-)…oh yeh, while I’m at it, I read Techcrunch (which didn’t say anything about these taking the piss), obviously English isn’t your forte, check out some of the comments on the post at TechCrunch, I’m far from being alone in my thoughts on this one:
“what a waste of suck…They all suck”
“holy SH** these are awful”
“Didn’t vote, they all sucked too bad.”
“They are all so horrible.”
“All of them were extremely weak.”
“man, those are all pretty awful.”
“All of those ads blew.”
and that’s not even half way down the list of comments at TechCrunch.

Jay, you need to put down the pipe and take some major chill pill.
Technorati, along with Meebo, Meez, Multiply, Plaxo, and RockYou, as covered on TechCrunch, were among a few companies that couldn’t afford the millions it costs to air a commercial during the Superbowl.
As a result, and as Duncan mentioned above, these companies “joined the ‘online Superbowl Commercial’ craze”. These weren’t anti-Superbowl, these companies just couldn’t afford to air them on TV and so they went the online route. The commercials were still supposed to capitalize on the Superbowl commercial coverage.
Maybe you should go and ‘read’ TechCrunch before you start attacking people with your unfounded and spurious remarks.

Oh, sorry, forgive me for believing that when you said you echoed shoe’s post that you ACTUALLY DID.
Half his post is about the 2+M he thought technorati spent.
Hell, even the part you quote says “MILLIONS” were spent.
Sorry for believing that you actually read what you quoted. That’s obviously a smaller mistake than my oops.
jay switch says
Oh, and technorati didn’t “join” the “craze”.
They were one of the companies who chose to launch it.
Unless I’m wrong, your wjole post should be rerwritten as “just saw technorati’s video… I think it sucks”.
And as I said before, that’s not news. It’s not even fresh (several days old). And it’s not even interesting.
As I said before, put this on your blog and it’s fine, but leave it off 901.
Duncan says
Actually it is news, there’s been a fair bit of Technorati WTF coverage @ 901am and this hadn’t been posted. If you don’t like it, bugger off like you promised to, and go grab a lesson on maturity and blogging while you’re at it, I don’t like every single post here @ 901am or most blogs for that matter, but I don’t carry on like a spoilt school girl because I disagree with a post.

Awww… Poor duncan feeling picked on? Can’t debate without ad hominem attacks?
Thuis is yet another reason you don’t belong at 901. The other writers here don’t need to insult someone’s intellect, heritage, english skills or sexual preferences (heh@schoolgirl).
