Android users have envied iOS device owners for a number of things, and one of these is Instagram. The hugely popular photo sharing app has been available to iOS devices. Android users have been clamoring for an Android version of Instagram but development but it seemed like the guys behind instagram didn’t have an Android port as a priority so much so that Instagram clones have proliferated at the Android Market, one of them being Streamzoo.
But the frustration of Android owners is about to end. Instagram is coming to Android.
This was the announcement made by Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom at SXSW a few days ago. Systrom revealed that they are in the final stages of developing the Android version of Instagram. He even showed a beta version during his presentation, although he didn’t conduct a walkthrough or demo.
Although Systrom did not specify an exact date on which it will become available for download in Google Play (he only said it will be “very soon”) he gave high praise to the Android version of Instagram, saying that “in some ways, it’s better than our iOS app.” He even said that the Instagram team is hard at work trying to make it one of the best Android apps you’ll ever see.
The impending release of the Android version of Instagram will come more than a year and half after it debuted in iOS. But Systrom said that it’s not a very long wait between the iOS and Android release. With almost 27 million registered users on the iOS platform, it’s safe to say that the Android version of Instagram is going to be a huge hit.
