The newest Android iteration, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich, has been released for months now but based on figures, not a lot of Android users have adopted the new generation Android OS yet. Google is meeting with a bit of resistance among Android users and this is proving to be a frustrating turn of events for the company.
According to Google, there was an improvement with the number of adopters to Ice Cream Sandwich, but when faced with the numbers, it was discovered that the number of adopters still remain quite small. Based on a 14 day period that ended on the first of June, only 7.1 percent of the android devices were installed with Ice Cream Sandwich, this is already a slight increase from the 4.9 percent share that was recorded for the first 14 days of May.
Based on month by month figures, the adoption of Ice Cream Sandwich dramatically increased by 244 percent between the months of April and May. Last April, Ice Cream Sandwich only had a 2.9 percent share of the Android market. The predominant Android OS, which is GingerBread, also saw an increase in adopters. IT has a 65 percent share of the Android market. Honeycomb, on the other hand, has 2.7 percent of the market.
Google acknowledges that the main problem is that adoption rate is really very slow and only involves a few of the total number of Android users. But Google says that Ice Cream Sandwich will start increasing its base with more new smartphone models coming out that already have Ice Cream Sandwich. Also, a coalition of carriers and manufacturers have committed to update all of their devices within a period of 18 months.
