To continue our early Holiday news beat which started with the “elf yourself” holiday card promo, it’s now Google’s turn to show some love to the gazillions of users who made them the number one search engine. As an early holiday gift Google is giving out free WiFi access to 49 airports in the U.S.That may not mean anything to you if you don’t travel a lot or if you’re spending your Holidays in your hometown. But for the majority of U.S. folks, this could be a great gift and would come in handy while waiting for their flights.
Exactly 49 airports are joining Google in this gig. In addition, all Virgin America flight will be also be offering in-flight WiFi access to passengers. Â The free WiFi gig will run until January 15, 2010.
Aside from this free WiFi, Google is also rolling out a photo contest through it’s Picasa Web Albums. All you need to do is to take photos of yourself using the free WiFi facility at any of the participating airports and Virgin America flights. Some cool prizes await those who will submit cool photos.
And last but not the least, Google is also rolling out a donation sortee via Google checkout. Those who will log in to the free WiFi system will have access to a link that will enable them to make donations to Engineers without Borders, the One Economy Corporateion or the Climate Savers Computing Initiative. Google will match the total amount of donations generated by the fund drive in each of the airports. Whoever gets the highest amount of donation will receive $15,000 which they can then donate to a charity of their choice.
