Darren Rowse has a post up on the hopefully experimental change on the Adsense units. Where you previously seen Ads by Gooogle text, you now get a Google logo instead of “Gooogle”, or a G logo to the right.
I don’t like it, especially not the white image on the ads background that is suggested at the leaderboard ad. See the Problogger post for more.

Last time I checked, Google was a strong enough brand that it had been “verbalized.”
At this point, you’d have to be born in a barn not to know who Google is, so why the lame little graphic logo?

I totally agree with you. Check out my latest findings for a slightly better, but still awkward, take on the use of the logo.
