Google has recently launched a new service in the UK that comes at just the right time. Google’s new indoor mapping service.
The Google indoor mapping service has already been available in certain locations in the US since last November. The new UK service will work on Android devices and will be able to provide users with the floor plans to a number of popular locations in the area, especially those that are seen as tourist spots. The floor plans of major department stores, airports and train stations will also be included. Of particular use is the floor plan for the British Museum, which is one of largest in the world. The plans will definitely help people when visiting the museum and not getting lost in its many halls and exhibits. The same can be said for the St. Pancras International train station, which is equally, if not more, confusingly large.
Accessing the interior plans of a building is easy. The user only needs to zoom in on the location through Google Maps. Zoom in enough and the interior plans will appear on screen. Enabling the My Location feature will also show where you are within that location through the same familiar blue dot. The indoor maps will surely be one of the most accessed features of Google Maps especially during the soon to be held Olympics in London.
