Rumors are buzzing again about Google getting into the tablet market.
According to a report posted by DigiTimes, Google is supposedly in the midst of creating a new 7 inch tablet that will be operated by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The tablet will allegedly be more affordable than the $200 Amazon Kindle Fire, which is the hottest tablet in the market today, after the Apple iPad.
According to the DigiTimes report, we can expect to see the Google Tablet sometime in March or April. The exact veracity of the facts are still highly suspect especially with Google Taiwan denying that there is any kind of work being done on a tablet. But company denials are also not a sure indication of the truth. We all know of many companies that would issue denials about rumors about their products or service but would later on make an official announcement. Nintendo is known for this tactic. At this point though, the Google tablet rumors can only be really classified as such because of the lack of any other information, much less more concrete indicators or evidence.
But the decision to enter the tablet market is not a far-fetched decision for Google. The tablet market is a very lucrative one and it could be in Google’ interest to enter the market and compete with Apple and Amazon, especially since Android is owned by Google. Pronouncements from the Google camp about releasing a tablet that will be of a great quality but at a very competitive price is the kind of combination that consumers will surely lap up.
