More and more public areas are getting free WiFi as demand for connectivity to the internet increases. New York City is one of the busiest and most cosmopolitan cities in the world but signals for phones and internet connections are still quite poor. But Boingo and Google Offers recently announced that it has partnered to provide free WiFi in six different subway stations all over New York City. Aside from the free WiFi in subways, 200 other hotspots all over Manhattan will provide Boingo services, allowing people to gain access to the internet all day.
The project, called Summer of Free Wi-Fi in NYC”, is a Boingo program sponsored by Google Offers. The earmarked subway stations that will get free WiFi will include lines that run along 14th street stations from west to east. Some stations along 23rd Street will also be included. The stations that are part of the project are:
- A, C, E station at Eighth Avenue and West 14th Street
- L station at Eighth Avenue and West 14th Street
- C, E station at Eighth Avenue and West 23rd Street
- 1, 2, 3 station at Seventh Avenue and West 14th Street
- F, M station at Sixth Avenue and West 14th Street
- L station at Sixth Avenue and West 14th Street
The stations are actually not a stranger to mobile communications. These same stations already offer phone and internet signals. But it is limited to just AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers. The Boingo and Google Offers project opens up that connectivity to everyone. The program will run from June 25 to September 7.
