Could this be a sign of an impending paradigm shift?
According to a new study funded by Viacom, more people are now watching TV shows on their tablets. In fact, it is the second most popular method of watching shows after TV sets.
According to the Viacom study, about 15 percent of people are now watching their favorite TV series on their tablets. The survey involved 2,500 people from ages between 8 and 54. The respondents, who came from New York and Los Angeles, were extensively interviewed according to Viacom. The showing of tablets in the survey is quite notable because two years ago, this market segment didn’t even exist.
Unfortunately, Viacom was also quite sparse in providing data for other things. For example, the actual percentage of people watching shows on TVs was not really provided. Also, the percentage of people who watch TV shows on PCs and smartphones are also was not provided. But some tidbits of data were given for example, people who have subscription services like Netflix, AirPlay, Apple TV and Amazon Whispersync are more likely to use tablets for their TV viewing.
The Viacom study further revealed that 62 percent of tablet users use their gadget an average of 2.4 hours every day, with 85 percent of this time used for personal stuff. Also, 77 percent of tablet users watch their shows alone.
