FamilySecure.com is a new resource to help parents and guardians monitor for identity theft that may be affecting them and their children. Enrollment fee is $19.95 per month. This new Website is a project of Experian Consumer Direct.
Powered by a patent-pending technology, parents and guardians are notified via e-mail of any credit inquiries, open accounts or public records such as bankruptcies, tax liens or monetary judgments associated with them or their child’s identity.
“This new product represents our continued commitment to delivering the most robust credit monitoring products on the market to maintain the integrity of our customers’ personal information and back this with an unprecedented $2 million guarantee for identity theft expenses,” said Ty Taylor, president of Experian Consumer Direct.
However, due to New York state law restrictions, the Family Secure guarantee cannot be offered to residents of New York.

Consumers do not understand what a credit file is – let alone the affect their credit rating has on applying for credit. Unless this “knowledge gap” is bridged, I cannot see this product (online credit monitoring) selling. We would very much like it to succeed though…..
We at ID THEFT PROTECT are very involved in driving ‘education and awareness and solutions’ and can confirm that the market place for identity theft and data privacy is rather fragmented – to learn more please go to: http://www.id-theftprotect.com

I completely agree with this point. The truth is that your credit report is the best way to confim that your identity has been stolen, but if you don’t know what to look for, what will it do for you?
I think Mr. Evans is on the right track talking about awareness and education, but the rest of his comment was too vague for me to follow. So, I bought a couple of books and did a ton of research on the internet and wrote a Indentity Theft Guide at topinternetguides.com.
The key take aways that I came up with are as follows:
You need to be aware of the types of scams that identity thieves will try to use on you.
You need to frequently check your credit report and understand the information it contains.
You need to be aware of every action you take that involves your credit history.
If you want to learn the types of scams that people are using to get your personal information, and what to look for on your credit report, here’s the link to my guide:
