Most, if not all of the social games on Facebook are casual in nature – that is, these games can only hold users’ Â interests at such a short time every time they play. And that’s what Ohai, a game startup wants to change as it prepares to launch City of Eternals – a new Vampire-inspired massively multiplayer online game on Facebook.
City of Eternals, unlike other Facebook social games will feature synchronous play – live gameplay where movement and action are constantly moving. In case you haven’t noticed, most Facebook games available today are asynchronous in nature. Â Hence, game progress is slow and user engagement on the app is very low.
Like other Facebook social games, City of Eternals will be free to play but will offer users with various ways to max out their gaming such as the controversial “virtual goods” system. Ohai, doesn’t seem to be aware of what happened with Zynga’s controversial FishVille game in Facebook. FishVille was attacked by some bloggers because of spammy upgrade links that entice players to click with a promise of gaining cool game upgrades. Some of these in-game links even require payment from the players.
City of Eternals integrates with Facebook and Facebook Connect as well as Twitter. The game is currently in alpha stage so, it would be awhile before it becomes playable in Facebook.
But with the renewed interest on vampire movies and games, thanks to the Twilight series, I’m pretty confident that this game would also be a big hit in Facebook.
