The Kindle Paperwhite was one of the hot announcements Amazon made a few weeks back. But now that it’s already being sold in the market, it’s been getting some criticisms and complaints about its screen.
Based on comments on online forums and at Amazon, users are complaining about the Kindle Paperwhite producing uneven illumination on the screen that is quite noticeable when viewed in certain lighting conditions.
The complaints range from certain spots that produce more light, screen blotches that are seen on certain parts of the screen, dark spots, and a bluish tint to the “white” screen.
Amazon has addressed the situation candidely by saying that the Paperwhite can produce these illumination artifacts when it is used “improperly” under certain lighting environments. Amazon said that although the Paperwhite does produce these imperfections, it is only relegated to parts of the screen that do not have text. Amazon has put up a page in its site that shows the Paperwhite being used in different lighting condition
s to show what the screen would look like. It also posted optimal settings for a better reading experience.
While the complaints about the screen imperfections may be valid, the other complaints being leveled against the Kindle Paperwhite may verge on nitpicking. Some of the complaints posted on the net include Amazon’s decision to put in 2GB of storage instead of the usual 4GB, the lack of audio capabilities, and no speech to text features.
