CNet’s launch of business manager focused site BNet surprises me in a very positive way. Although it apparently have been running in beta since February 1, the site was news to me. Besides, it’s officially launched now, according to MediaWeek, so who cares?
BNet takes on the bizmags right on, if you ask me. There’s lots of competition in this segment, but CNet have the means to reach out, and I’m pretty sure they’ll power BNet with video content and a lot more.
Also, BNet looks great. Always a treat to browse a good looking site, huh?

Some of the business mags they are going after are already their partners. Wonder how long that will last.

David, thanks for the kind words! It’s wonderful that you think our new baby, BNET, is comparable to the decades-old, established business magazines. But we really don’t see ourselves as competing with them.
They are (very broadly) about “business sports” — who won, who lost, who got traded, what’s the point spread. BNET is about excelling at work, in your job, at your desk during lunchtime, with those annoying competitors, imperfect information and without the budget you really need.
To put it another way, most business mags are about other people in other jobs; BNET is about you in your job. I just can’t imagine the content that we’re publishing showing up in any of the business mags, except as a one-off special section. Their bread and butter ain’t the same as ours.
