YouTube Now Streaming Facebook Video Feeds

YouTube has started featuring Facebook videos shared by your friends right on its home page, says YouTube’s Official Blog. What this means is that every time your Facebook friends embed videos, it will be automatically pushed to your YouTube account. So, this practically gives you two ways of finding out what your friends have uploaded – either from YouTube or Facebook.

The feature is currently in beta mode. But the YouTube blog gave a work around to try out the feature.  Just go to this page and look just connect your Facebook account to YouTube. Once the verification process is complete, you would soon start seeing your friends’ video feeds on your YouTube homepage.

While you’re still there, you might want enable or disable autoshare as well if you don’t want your YouTube videos syndicated on Facebook. Although, I’m not really sure why you would want to do that since feeding your YouTube videos to Facebook gives it more audience.

You can also connect to your Facebook friends by using the search friends function on the YouTube homepage.

YouTube Amateur Video Maker Snags $30 Million Movie Deal

This has got to be the deal breaker of the year – an amateur movie producer from Uruguay lands a $30 million Hollywood movie deal, thanks to a 4 minute movie he uploaded on YouTube.

Fede Alvarez of Uruguay uploaded his short movie entitled “Ataque de Panico” (Panic Attack!)  on YouTube and a few days after he received tons of emails from different  Hollywood studios. One of them offered him $30 million for a full-length movie.

Ataque de Panico is a 4 minutes 48 seconds long movie that featured giant robots attacking Montevideo, capital of Uruguay. It had received 1.5 million views on YouTube since it was uploaded there.

For the Hollywood movie that he will be making, Alvarez’ movie will be sponsored by Sam Raimi, director of Spiderman the movie and Evil Dead films. The movie will also be sci-fi film and will be shot on location in Uruguay and Argentina.

Now this is what I can call as tremendously lucky. So, if you are a budding movie producer you might want to perfect your craft and share it on YouTube as well. Hollywood movie producers are really looking into YouTube  to scout for great movie uploads.

But if you’re afraid that you can’t do it, take inspirations from Alvarez’ few words of wisdom:

“If some director from some country can achieve this just uploading a video to YouTube, it obviously means that anyone could do it.”

Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle is the Most Watched YouTube Video in 2009

Alright, to be honest I watched Susan Boyle’s audition video for Britain’s Got Talent just now. I’ve been hearing about it before but just couldn’t find the time to watch and be entertained by it. No wonder, it’s the most watched video on YouTube for 2009 with 120+ million views since April.

For the most watched music videos, Pitbull’s I Know You Want Me made it to the top with 82+ million views in 2009.

Here’s the complete list of most watched  YouTube videos and most watched music videos globally in 2009.

Most Watched YouTube videos (Global):
1. Susan Boyle – Britain’s Got Talent (120+ million views)

Christmas Carolling the YouTube Way

Depending on the country where you are located, it’s either 13 or 14 days before Christmas. You’re probably on a rush now with your last minute shopping to neglect that there is one better way of spreading the joys of Christmas other  than showering your loved ones with their Christmas gifts. What is it? – Christmas carolling of course!

YouTube, in cooperation with TJMax and Marshalls have partnered up to bring the joys of holiday cheers with Christmas carolling done the YouTube way. Sing those old Christmas carols and share your videos by uploading them to YouTube and you could win a $5,000 shopping allowance.

Additionally YouTube is spreading the Christmas goodwill by donating money to Toys for Tots for every Christmas carolling video uploaded to.

Of course there are some contest details and official rules that you must follow. If you read the official rules you’d find out that the gig has started last Nov. 29 and will end on Dec. 20th. That gives you less than 10 days to get your gear on, belt out your best rendition of any classic Christmas carol and don’t forget to record your performance and upload it to YouTube as soon as you can. Winners will be announed on December 30.

Incidentally, the YouTube gig has the lovely YouTube sensation Happyslip as official endorser of the Christmas gig. That makes it even more exciting, well at least if you’re a fan of Happyslip aka Christine.

Everybody Counts on Vevo to Salvage What is Left of the Music Video Industry

Pardon the momentary glitch a couple of hours after its official launch, but Vevo is up and running right now (if you’re in the U.S. at least since the site is not available in most countries). And judging by the way its launch gig went and the support it is getting from major industry players including music artists, it looks like Vevo is headed for big time success.

What if you have Bono, Lady Gaga, John Meyer, Mariah Carey  and Adam Lambert promoting it? Plus Google’s Eric Schmidt  allowing all views of Vevo videos on YouTube to be attributed to Vevo? It’s a clear shot to video site stardom, right?  It looks like Vevo might become the no.3 video site next to YouTube and Hulu perhaps.

Vevo executives expect their site to get more than 400 million video views in the site’s first month of operation. While Mariah hopes Vevo can help salvage something that used to be amazing. Advertisers are joining in as well with the likes of AT&T, McDonalds and other industry players coming on board.

Could Vevo give Hulu a run for its money? Only time can tell. What Vevo needs to do right now is to prepare its site for unsurmountable traffic in the days to come and avoid downtimes as much as possible because that will somehow determine the site’s future.
