YouTube announced the results of Project Direct, the company’s first ever international film competition sponsored by HP. Hundreds of talented filmmakers entered the contest and award-winning director, Jason Reitman, along with a panel of experts from Fox Searchlight, helped choose 20 finalists. The YouTube community then voted and selected their favorite films.
Adriana Falcão of Brazil won the competition for “Lacos.” As the grand prize winner, Falcão will spend nine days as a guest of HP at a major international film festival, will meet with Fox Searchlight Pictures production executives, will receive a $5,000 debit card and have her video played on the YouTube homepage in seven countries. Second place winner from the United States, Jacob Lewis, will receive a $5,000 debit card for his film “Gone in a Flash.” Additionally, third place winner, America’s Ben Shelton, will receive a $2,500 debit card for his film “My Name Is Lisa.”
Audiences can view the winning films and additional contest entries in a dedicated Project Direct gallery at www.youtube.com/projectdirectgallery. The gallery launches December 12, 2007 and will exist indefinitely to highlight the exceptional films that were submitted to the contest.

Tribune Interactive, a division of Tribune Company, announced the launch of branded Channels for its newspapers and television stations on YouTube.
Tribune Interactive’s newspaper Channels, such as youtube.com/chicagotribune and youtube.com/orlandosentinel, feature timely local content, including the latest news coverage, sports commentary, arts and entertainment news, product demos and human-interest clips.
Tribune also created YouTube Channels for its television stations, including Chicago’s WGN, LA’s KTLA and New York -based WPIX. These Channels showcase popular news clips, celebrity interviews, feature stories and unique local video content.

YouTube, the world’s most popular online video community, has launched its local Canadian site YouTube.ca to give Canadians the best video content from around the world through a local interface that promotes the content most relevant to them.
With local search features such as promoted videos, featured videos, and homepage promotions, YouTube Canada makes it even faster and easier for the local Canadian YouTube community to quickly search and view video content most relevant to them.
Content uploaded by users in Canada will show up as “top favourites” and “recommended content” on the YouTube Canada site, creating a new space for the national community and giving Canadian users the opportunity to increase their exposure and become local stars, and increasing their exposure within the YouTube international community as well.
YouTube has already signed various relationships with content partners in Canada including Dose.ca, CBC, CFL, CommandN, NewsCanada, UNICEF, and SONY BMG Canada.
