YouTube’s New Mobile Site Features Browser Playback

YouTube Mobile SiteYouTube just upgraded their mobile site, and I like what they’ve done with it. The previous mobile site opened videos in your phone’s player application. With this new mobile site, the videos play right there in your phone’s browser.

I did run into one little niggle while testing the site on my Nokia N95: thumbnails in listings still reverted to the old behavior of launching an external player. YouTube’s own mobile player application is still the best way to watch skateboarding dogs on the go, but this new mobile site is a viable alternative. BillieTweets, awesome Twitter-Youtube mashup in tribute to Michael Jackson

After the sad news about Michael Jackson last weekend, their has been an increase in searches related to Mj and music sites have seen spike in the popularity of MJ’s songs. And it certainly is no surprise that tribute sites for MJ will be created as well. Expect to see many of those over the next days.

The first one I noticed is BillieTweets, a rather simple but very cool mashup. The concept couldn’t be simpler actually. BillieTweets has the “Billie Jean” video integrated and will pull tweets and highlight in every tweet one word to display the lyrics of the “Billie Jean” song. [Read more…]

MySpace, YouTube “Reporters” chosen to cover World Economic Forum in Davos

Two ‘citizen reporters’ from MySpace and YouTube have been invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos-Klosters following online contests on both sites. These “Citizen Reporters” won the opportunity to attend the prestigious conference and will report back to their respective communities by using the MySpace and YouTube platforms.

Rebecca McQuigg from Los Angeles, California has been chosen by the “MySpace Journal” panel of judges that included Mark Adams (Head of Communications of the World Economic Forum), Arianna Huffington (Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post), Frank Luntz (Communications Specialist and Political Consultant) and Chris DeWolfe (CEO and Co-Founder of MySpace) to represent the MySpace community. The “MySpace Journal” contest gave contestants less than a week to submit a video explaining why they should be chosen to attend Davos and report on the conference for the global MySpace community as well as answer any one of the below questions:

• If you were given the opportunity to take one person (living or historical figure) to Davos in order to make an impact on the conference, who would it be and why?

• If you could engage the entire MySpace community in doing one thing to help make an economic difference, what would it be? (Click here to see her reply.)

• Why do you deserve the chance to attend the World Economic Forum as the MySpace Special Correspondent and how will your participation engage the audience?

Rebecca McQuigg will receive all-expense paid travel to/from Davos, Switzerland and media access to the Congress Centre. She will document her Davos experience via blogging/vlogging on MySpace and on the Wall Street Journal online.

Pablo Camacho from Bogotá, Colombia has been chosen to represent the YouTube community. Pablo is a 24 year old student and an independent writer. He is also singer and guitarist in the band the Mmodcats. He is one of over 250 YouTubers who participated in the Davos Debates sending in video replies from all over the world including Afghanistan, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Panama, the Philippines, Russia, Sweden, the UK, and the US. Kiwibox joins YouTube Partner Program

kiwibox2Kiwibox, a social networking destination and online magazine for teens, has officially been accepted into the YouTube Partner Program. Kiwibox will now be able to share in advertising revenue from the over 500 Kiwibox exclusive videos appearing on YouTube.

YouTube created their Partner Program so that companies like Kiwibox can profit from their originally produced online videos. The videos appearing on YouTube’s Kiwibox Channel feature exclusive interviews with musicians and celebrities such as: Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Lauren Conrad, Mark Wahlberg and many more.

Eye-Fi to launch wireless video uploads direct to YouTube

Eye-Fi Inc., makers of the world’s first wireless memory card for digital cameras, is developing a way for users to wirelessly upload videos from their digital camera to YouTube and a home computer.

Eye-Fi is designing its video upload service to support full-resolution HD video, with newer cameras like the Nikon D90 capturing HD video and web sites including YouTube now testing display of HD video.

With Eye-Fi’s wireless SD memory cards for digital cameras, users can upload photos – and soon video – automatically through Wi-Fi networks. Eye-Fi hotspot subscribers can also upload their memories away from home at more than 10,000 Wayport and open hotspot locations across the U.S.
