TV Guide announces nominees for Online Video Awards

tvguide.pngTV Guide announced nominees in 18 categories for its Online Video Awards. The Online Video Awards are intended to recognize the best and most innovative professional video programming being created for the web. Many of the major broadcast and cable networks are represented among the nominees along with other entertainment sites including FunnyOrDie.com, SuperDeluxe.com and YouTube.com. Winners will be chosen by fan voting, taking place now at tvguide.com/videoawards.

For Your Imagination selects Blip.tv to host its web-based shows

For Your Imagination, a New York-based production company that produces and markets original Internet TV shows, announced that it has selected Blip.tv as the primary host for its popular web-based programming. Blip.tv will now host For Your Imagination’s shows, including “The Patrice Oneal Show – Coming Soon!,” “Break a Leg,” “The Shirtless Apprentice” and “bschooltalk.”

For Your Imagination worked with Blip.tv to secure a sponsor for the second season of “Break a Leg,” a scripted sitcom about an aspiring Hollywood television director and his sitcom. From October 1st through November 30th, “Break a Leg” will run overlays and postroll ads for “The Smart Show,” an HBO/AOL-produced web underwritten by Holiday Inn Express.

As part of the agreement, the For Your Imagination shows are available at Blip.tv and on branded web sites created for each show. All future and past episodes will be supported by the blip.tv ad network and sponsorship program.

Google launches YouTube video ID system to fight against piracy

youtube.pngAs part of its efforts to end piracy over online videos, Google has released the beta version of YouTube Video Identification.

According to the blog of this search engine giant, it is a tool that will help copyright owners “so that they can more easily identify their content and manage how it is made available on YouTube.:

In YouTube’s video identification page, the goals of this new tool are to get accurate information, give copyright holders a choice, and deliver a great user experience.

However, Google and YouTube made it clear that YouTube Video Identification goes well above and beyond their legal responsibilities.

Google is testing this new system with big media companies like CBS, Disney, Time Warner, and Viacom.

Still, Google CEO Eric Schmidt admits the system is far from perfect and getting 100% accuracy is impossible at this time. What they are after is to achieve at least 80 to 90% for the ID system to have a value.

Daily Motion to feature Turner Broadcasting Europe programs

turner.pngDailymotion, an independent video sharing site, and Turner Broadcasting System Europe announced an agreement to make news, entertainment and animation programming available to audiences across Europe. The agreement marks Turner’s choice of Dailymotion as a key partner in the wider distribution of its content across non-linear platforms and the continued distribution of Adult Swim outside of the US.

The deal covers content from Turner’s leading global news network, CNN International, which will be featured on the new Dailymotion News Channel with hourly refreshes, as well as from Adult Swim, the edgy animation brand which will form a key part of Dailymotion’s Funny Channel with clips from flagship programs such as Robot Chicken, Frisky Dingo and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In addition, Dailymotion will feature clips from Nuts TV.
