If you happen to own a Tivo and love all of the cool things you can do with it, you’ll be happy to know the long dormant Galleon project may be coming back to life.
Galleon, for those that don’t know of this, is an open-source project which runs software on your PC. This software hosts applications which you can view through your Internet-enabled Tivo DVR. These applications, usually developed by individual third-party programmers, let you do a variety of cool things from your Tivo such as instant messaging, watching streaming video, reading your email and playing iTunes playlists.
Galleon has been dormant for awhile. It is been noticed though a post in the Galleon forum which suggests development is now restarting. It looks also as if a new person is perhaps taking the side project over from its previous owner – that or the person who ran it before is now posting under a different handle. Either way it will be nice to have this valuable third-party Tivo application being worked on again.
