Google, Sina team up

Reuters reports that Sina Corp. and Google Inc. would cooperate on news, advertising and search services in China, the world’s second largest online community. Initially, the team up would allow Google users easier access to Sina’s news content.

“In the future, we can explore cooperation in advertising and search, and other areas,” Lee Kai-Fu, the president of Google in Greater China said.

Complete details of the agreement is still being worked out. Financial details were not disclosed.

TheFind.com announces new shopping search engine exclusively to PayPal

TheFind, Inc. announced the launch of PayPal.TheFind.com, a new shopping search engine built specifically to enable consumers to browse products exclusively from merchants who accept PayPal payments.

Just like results on TheFind.com, products will be shown to PayPal customers as visually compelling catalog-like images, not simply text links or thumbnail images. Unlike traditional comparison shopping sites, merchants will not have to pay for their products to appear in search results on PayPal.TheFind.com; instead, products from PayPal merchants will be indexed and become part of the natural search results.

“By working with TheFind.com, our customers have access to a unique online shopping experience. We are committed to providing our customers with safe, simple and secure ways to shop online,” said Gene Alston, business development director at PayPal.

Baidu denies Europe expansion plan

baidu.jpg China’s most popular search engine, Baidu, plans to enter the European market has denied its plan to expand in European market. Instead, it will invest $15 million for its Japanese Web site, Baidu.jp.

“Recent rumors alleging that Baidu.com is expanding into Europe are groundless,” the company said in a statement released through its Beijing public-relations firm.

Under the terms of the acquisition, LiveDeal shareholders received 15,968,514 shares of YP common stock. LiveDeal will remain an independent entity and a wholly owned subsidiary of YP and the two companies will leverage one another’s content, sales teams and technology to strengthen their individual product offerings.

YP plans to use LiveDeal’s innovative technology platform to converge its four principal marketing channels – directories, mobile services, classifieds and advertising/distribution networks into a first-of-its–kind, hyper-local marketing solution for businesses and consumers.

Rajesh Navar, the founder & CEO of LiveDeal, will serve as president and chief architect of YP Corp. and will also join the YP board, effective immediately.

Time Warner to decide on AOL’s future by end 2007

aol.jpg For AOL it is either a spin off or merger with another company. According to Reuters, Time Warner will decide the fate of the online company by the end of this year.

“By the end of this year, we can make the call on AOL (on whether) we have found a business model or approach that can result in sustainable growth over time,” Parsons said in the Webcast presentation. “We’re in the right area.”

“It all comes down to the ability to transform AOL into a destination for the 12- to 35-year-old generation relative to surviving on their former dial-up or access subscriber base. If they can, they should keep it,” said Pali Capital analyst Richard Greenfield.
