Google brings Desktop to Linux users

google-linux-desktop.jpgLinux users will be happy to note Google launched last night a version of its Desktop software just for them. It was developed primarily at their Beijing location, according to the Google Desktop blog.

Google Desktop for Linux, which joins versions for Windows and Mac, will offer many of the same features as found in an early edition of the Windows version. It also includes the useful Quick Search Box, which can be called up by hitting Ctrl twice on your keyboard.

As Google puts it the Linux version was developed as an easier way to find something then “‘find /home/username -name ‘*.pdf’ and ‘pdftotext pdf_file_name.pdf output.txt…'” Enough said.

Photobucket enables embedding of digital media search

photobucket.jpgPhotobucket today announced the launch of the Photobucket Media Plug-in 2.0, an enhanced version of its free image and video hosting plug-in, originally launched in June 2006. It allows users of participating Web sites to search for billions of publicly stored photos, videos and images from Photobucket’s extensive library, and access their existing Photobucket media accounts – all without leaving partner sites. Since its launch in June 2006, the Photobucket Media Plug-in has been successfully deployed by hundreds of web sites. The Photobucket Media Plug-in 2.0 will be available for partner Web sites before the end of June 2007.
