Multimedia content generator VideoThang and video and image search provider Pixsy Corp. have launched a unique partnership which allows VideoThang users to search for videos and images directly from their desktop.

The new Pixsy search tool can be accessed directly from VideoThang’s dynamic, revolutionary channel, delivering interactivity and functionality directly to the desktop while a user is in the process of creating and editing video content. Pixsy multimedia search is available as an expandable application in the VideoThang channel, which appears on the right side of the VideoThang platform. Upon expansion, the tool displays the Pixsy search box and includes drop-down filters so users can specifically choose videos and/or images, category and/or source within their results. Thumbnails of the resultant videos and/or images are delivered directly to the VideoThang Channel where the user can then choose to view them or link to the source to display them.

Verizon, Google near search agreement

Verizon Communications Inc. may be getting a jolt for each mobile search business with an agreement with Google, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The report added that the deal would make Google the default search provider on Verizon devices and give it a share of ad revenue.

As it is today, users have to go to different places just to search for stuff such as webpages, ringtones, etc. Verizon wants to change this with a new search platform and Google is the best partner to do that.

Cuil unveils search service bigger than Google, so they say

Cuil (pronounced as “cool”), led by former Google engineers, unveiled its own web search service that hopes to rival their former company. In fact, it is dubbing its service as the biggest search engine in the world.

“Our significant breakthroughs in search technology have enabled us to index much more of the Internet, placing nearly the entire Web at the fingertips of every user,” Tom Costello, Cuil co-founder and chief executive, said.

Only time can tell if they can beat Google in the game of search. Initial impression, however, is more on the unimpress side.

Mobissimo launches travel search in Germany

Travel search engine Mobissimo has added Germany to its network of local travel search sites, with local content for German users.

Mobissimo now covers the top eight online markets in Europe, including France, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the UK, as well as India and North America.

Mobissimo’s new German site includes fares and offers from local travel agencies, consolidators, hotels and all the major and low-cost airlines relating to German users. The Germany launch matches the strong demand in Eastern and Western Europe for online travel options: European countries account for more than 50 per cent of all worldwide travel.

• gives weight to preferred engines

Scour pulls search results from the top three search engines. From there it thrives on feedback to make the results ever more relevant. After enough votes on results, a search result can rise or fall in ranking which will make listings across all the engines more relevant on Scour.
