Cambrian House, an online crowdsourcing community that enables members to collaborate around ideas and business, today proclaimed themselves as the first Web 2.0 company to be owned in part by its members.
Starting today all existing members, and anyone who joins Cambrian House from this point forward, will earn a share in the business. The more engaged they are as members, the more shares they will earn over time. Cambrian House measures participation with a Glory Point system. Points are awarded for a variety of actions such as editing a member profile, commenting on a member’s business idea, completing a task, or submitting code. Shares are awarded based on participation and can be cashed out at any time.
No other Web 2.0 company relying on user-generated content has financially rewarded their community for their time and efforts to this level.
“I’m really excited to be the first Web 2.0 community where all members share in the community’s growth,” said Michael J. Sikorsky, Cambrian House
CEO. “We value the time and effort members dedicate to Cambrian House and think they should feel like it’s their business too.”
(Editor’s disclosure: I am a member of Cambrian House. You should.)
