Warner Music sues Imeem

wmg2.jpgWarner Music Group is not happy with Imeem that it has announced that theu have filed a lawsuit against Imeem, a social networking site based on music.

This lawsuit is related to accusations of copyright violations of their artists including Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day. Warner claimed that Imeem used their copyright media in building a user of 16 million. Imeem allows the users to create profiles on the web and they can upload their mp3 files which are shared with their friends.

Warner said in a statement: “Imeem is no innocent infringer. It invites Imeem’s millions of users to flock to its website to copy, adapt, distribute and perform unlicensed sound recordings and music videos.”

Imeem claims that they alert the members not to upload any copyrighted media on the service.

Clinton asks supporters to vote for official campaign theme song

hillary.jpgHillary Clinton is getting the 2008 voting started early, posting a video on YouTube in which she urges her supporters to cast their vote for her official campaign theme song.

“I hope people from across the country will go to my website and vote for the song they feel best represents our message of change and their hopes for a better America,” Clinton said. “And I promise to leave the singing to the professionals.”

Linkin Park celebrates new album release with fans in Virtual MTV

linkinpark.jpgLinkin Park’s long-awaited third album “Minutes to Midnight” hit the stores today, and tomorrow members of the band will host a virtual party within Virtual MTV (vMTV) to meet with their fans and discuss their latest project.

Vocalist Chester Bennington and other band members will make special appearances at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT on Wednesday, May 16th in vMTV’s virtual version of Club Hyde, the trendy Hollywood Hills hotspot. To join the party, fans simply need to go to www.vmtv.com, download the free application, create their own stylized avatar and head over to the club to meet Bennington.

vMTV from MTV Networks’ Music Group is a collection of popular virtual worlds that bridge the gap between television programming and emerging virtual world space. Bennington will be represented in vMTV by a specially created avatar, allowing him to interact one-on-one with their fans around the world in an environment that replicates one of the hottest scenes in Hollywood, and will be joined by another band member in-world. USA Network and Yahoo Music inks music pact for television

USA Network and Yahoo! Music announced that they have entered into an agreement to discover and promote new music and emerging artists through a non-traditional marketing model. The collaboration, the first of its kind for television, seeks to move beyond the boundaries of traditional marketing by enhancing USA Network’s slate of innovative programming and promotional content through relevant and breakthrough music.

“We’re thrilled to be involved in this innovative partnership that has the potential to create a new model for the way musical artists are discovered and developed,” said Chris McCumber, USA’s senior vice president, marketing & brand strategy. “We look forward to combining the resources and creative synergy of USA, Yahoo! Music and media architect Spencer Proffer to carve a unique sonic brand for the network.”

Under terms of the venture, USA Network will then sign the mutually agreed-upon performing artists, integrating them into the network for an incubation period. Music industry innovator Spencer Proffer of Meteor 17 will oversee the development and promotion of the artists along with USA
Network and Yahoo! Music. USA will utilize the artists’ recordings for marketing and programming on the network and will benefit from a flexible source of new music for use on all platforms. Yahoo! Music will employ artists’ music for further exposure.

ReverbNation.com to begin paying musicians

reverbnation.jpgReverbNation.com announced that artists will receive 50% of the revenues generated by the advertising displayed on artist profile pages. The new program, dubbed “Fair Share”, is scheduled to launch July of 2007.

“Artists are searching for new ways to earn money in this rapidly changing business,” said Jed Carlson, Chief Marketing Officer. “The relationships artists have with their fans are valuable beyond simply selling songs or tickets. They just need ways to tap into the Band Equitytm they have built up with those fans. Sharing in ad revenue with sites like ours is one of those ways. ”

At the end of each month, half of the advertising revenue from ads across all artist profile pages will be put into a pool. That pool of money is divided among the artists participating in the Fair Share program based upon the proportion of site activity each artist generated for the month. Site activity includes things such as page view activity, song play activity, and fan activity. To qualify, artists must hold the copyrights (or permission from the rightful copyright owners) to all the content displayed on their profile pages.
