GyPSii announces support for Intel-based Mobile Internet Devices

Mobile digital lifestyle application GyPSii is optimizing its social networking application for Moblin-based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) based on Intel Atom processor Z5XX series.

The GyPSii application connects people and content to places and networks allowing users to share their real life experiences in the virtual world. It is the first application of its kind that enables people to record their life based on their location, bringing together new mobile lifestyle capabilities including User Generated Content, Locating Friends and Points of Interest.

GyPSii’s applications and services is expected to be featured in Intel’s keynote as showcased at the upcoming Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco from August 19-21, 2008.

US mobile ads growing in US and UK but trails India

Mobile social communities provider Limbo and GfK Technology, a market search agency, have released the latest joint Mobile Advertising Report (MAR), showing a high percentage of mobile phone users in the US, UK and India. This, in turn, indicates that they are receiving advertising messages through their mobile phone: 85 percent in India, 51 percent in the UK, and 37 percent in the US.

Though mobile phone marketing exposure is prevalent in all three countries, the mobile delivery tools vary. Text messaging, however, remains the most common advertising format in all; 74 percent in India, 48 percent in the UK and 22 percent in the US. Mobile web advertising was most prevalent in the UK, with 16 percent of respondents recalling advertising compared with 8 percent of those in the US and 4 percent of those in India. Radio also showed a striking variation with nearly 40 percent of those in India recalling advertisements through radio on their mobile phones compared to only 9 percent in the UK and 3 percent in the US.

Though the US lags behind the UK and India in many mobile phone usage categories, it shows strong growth. The number of people using mobile phones in the US has grown from 251 million in Q4 2007 to over 263 million this quarter, up nearly ten percent. The US also shows steady increases in the number of people who recall seeing advertising through their mobile phone, from 31 percent to 37 percent over the same time period.

42 million mobile phones sold in US in Q2 2008

Mobile shipments in the US during the Q2 of this year defied the economic gloom and grew 5 percent annually to reach 42 million units, according to a latest research from Strategy Analytics.

“Despite economic fears and a tightening on consumer-spend, mobile phone shipments in the United States reached 41.9 million units during Q2 2008, up 5.3 percent from 39.8 million in Q2 2007. Attractive bundling schemes from operators and a number of new handset launches from vendors kept replacement rates at a healthy level,” Bonny Joy, Analyst at Strategy Analytics, said.

This figure should result in more companies and applications taking advantage of this boom.

Mobile social network itsmy.com has launched what it dubs as the first social phone book in mobile Internet. There is no application download necessary and all features can easily be handled with every mobile browser.

The mobile web phone book consists of single contacts with all profile details from your friends like phone numbers, pictures, links to favourite mobile sites, but also has many social features like direct access to community actions, messaging, sharing and voting.

“We will transfer the complete personal phone book from the mobile device into the mobile web, make it social and add every possible feature including voice and video calls,” Antonio Vince Staybl, CEO of itsmy.com, said.
