The caregiver market represents one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S. As advances in healthcare continue, the over-65 population is projected to grow exponentially.

“My passion for this website was the result of personal experience in caregiving for a family member. Though there were many websites that provided assistance and information, navigating, researching and sorting through the mounds of information was a long, difficult task. Amazing Food Detective a free online game to fight obesity

Amazing Food Detective is the only free, online video game in English and Spanish that teaches children to eat healthier foods, get more active and manage how they spend their time in front of the computer and television. This is a team up of Kaiser Permanente and the Golden State Warriors to help fight childhood obesity in Bay Area schools.

The video game, which is being distributed in thousands of public schools with a teaching guide and family fun pages, shuts off function after 20 minutes of play, reminds kids to get active and won’t let them back into the game for an hour.

The game also includes printable scavenger hunts that teach kids how to interpret food labels, experiments to show kids how to measure sugar in soda drinks, healthy kid-friendly recipes, muscle-building exercises, and family activities that encourage better eating habits.

The Warriors partnership and the Amazing Food Detective video game are part of Kaiser Permanente’s $20 million annual grants to reach beyond the doctor’s office to help make changes that encourage healthy eating and active living in our communities.

Calorie Count Plus uses interactive tools combined with community elements and information on food and exercise to enable dieters to cultivate a healthier lifestyle while helping them to reach their diet goals.

The site begins by evaluating a user’s current activity level and physical profile. It then prompts the member to create a list of his/her favorite foods. Keeping the user’s likes and dislikes in mind, Calorie Count Plus’s food recommendation tool then suggests foods with a higher nutritional value, based on the preferences of members with similar tastes. The member is then taken through a series of questions which assess his/her eating habits and determine barriers for losing weight.

1st non-profit int’l healthcare web portal opens in China
