MeeVee builds hub for all network TV shows available online

meevee.jpgMeeVee announced the addition of a Free TV Episodes hub aggregating all TV show feeds available online from the major broadcast networks. The hub will allow viewers who missed their favorite shows to easily find and watch them online and discover new shows.

Viewers will be able to find the episodes most recently made available online from NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS, and CW, as well as quickly and easily browse for past episodes. Additionally, MeeVee’s hub will offer a comprehensive list of TV Show and Movie downloads available through iTunes. Among the shows to be found through MeeVee are Heroes, Lost, Dancing With The Stars, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Pussycat Dolls, and America’s Next Top Model.

“At MeeVee our mission is to help consumers cut through the clutter so they can find and enjoy the TV and video they want to see,” said Michael Raneri, CEO. “By creating a single destination to find all TV episodes from the major broadcast networks in a single place, we’re fulfilling that mission.”

DoD blocks soldiers’ access to 13 popular Web sites

youtube.jpg The US Department of Defense (DoD) has waged a new war – this time against 13 popular Web sites including YouTube and Myspace. Claiming that these sites affected network bandwidth and opened numerous security gaps, DoD decided to curtail this benefit to all military personnel.

MySpace, YouTube.com, Metacafe, iFilm, StupidVideos, FileCabi, BlackPlanet, Hi5, Pandora, MTV.com, 1.fm, Live365 and Photobucket are all victims of their own popularity. Removal of these sites are based not solely on popularity but also size and content of the files.

In an interview by TechNewsWorld with DoD’s Joint Task Force, Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO) public affairs officer Tim Madden, he said, “This is a proactive measure that’s intended to maximize the availability of DoD network resources to support DoD missions, and it doesn’t prohibit military or DoD civilian personnel from accessing those sites from another computer. What we need to do in providing command and control for the GIG (the military’s Global Information Grid) is ensure timely and secure Net-centric capabilities across strategic operational and tactical boundaries.”

Heroes goes online to keep viewer interest

heroes.jpgTV series hit Heroes, the biggest thing to come out of NBC in quite some time it appears, is nearing its season finale. The end, the one that will bring everything together. But there’s a second season coming, of course, and it’s due this Fall.

To keep viewer interest over the Summer, NBC will not only continue to update the online graphic novel but also publish Inside Heroes online. I’m guessing it’ll be behind the scenes andstuff like that, and B&C seems to agree. For the hardcore fans then. It’s due May 21 over at nbc.com.

Microsoft to broadcast web-only video series

Microsoft announced that they are going to broadcast two new web-only video series from Reveille, the production company behind the popular television series “The Office” and “Ugly Betty.” The two shows are “Driving School” and “This is the Life” and will be broadcasted on MSN.

Volvo Car Corp. and Chivas Brothers are sponsoring the shows.

Reel Ideas Studio to bring together global filmmaking community

reelideas.jpgBringing together student and professional filmmakers globally, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced that it will team with Vancouver Film School and Intel on Reel Ideas Studio, a global program featuring two documentary film competitions during the 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival, May 16 to 27 in Cannes, France. Winning entries from both competitions will be recognized and their documentaries will be screened at the Reel Ideas Studio Awards on May 24 in the American Pavilion during the film festival.

Vancouver Film School and Adobe will host a contest to recognize the best three-to-five minute short subject films created as part of the Reel Ideas Studio Online Community. Additionally, Intel and Adobe are set to co-sponsor the American Pavilion Student Filmmaker Program and Competition onsite in Cannes, where students from more than thirty film schools in North America, the United Kingdom, Asia and South America will create engaging documentaries on their experiences at Cannes. Individuals entering either or both of these competitions will be able to share their progress and collaborate with their virtual teams on their documentaries with the Reel Ideas Studio online community.
